What is Ultimate?

Ultimate Frisbee is a non contact, possession based team sport. The objective: Catch the frisbee within your designated scoring zone, located at the ends of the pitch.

Each team begins on opposite ends of the field, and play is initiated with a ‘pull’ where you give possession to the opposing team for a chance to score. You lose possession of the disc when:

  • You drop the disc.
  • An opponent intercepts it
  • The disc touches the ground before you have control over it.
  • You hold on to the disc for more than ten seconds.

There are no referees – Ultimate is a game of integrity, communication, and respect. This is exemplified in what we call the Spirit of the Game, and it is what really makes this sport so special.

There are a several different international level tournaments for Ultimate that allow competition between national teams, clubs, and even youth teams. The World Under-24 Ultimate Championship happens every two years, where the best players in the country are selected through gruelling trial processes, train together, and represent their country on an international stage.
